Rockwall
Originally, Rockwall was part of Kaufman County. In 1873, the county seat was moved to Rockwall. Originally, Rockwall had only a few hundred residents. However, with the construction of Lake Ray Hubbard in the 1970s, Rockwall’s population began to rise rapidly. The city was eventually incorporated April 17, 1854.
Rockwall is home to three major golf courses. It also has its own winery and craft brewery. The city has a vibrant music scene. There are numerous parks, hiking trails, and zip lines. Rockwall’s economy is strong and it offers affordable housing. Rockwall is also a member of the North Central Texas Council of Governments, which coordinates local government. The council is a voluntary organization that enables joint decisions.
The Rockwall County Historical Foundation has a collection of rocks from the Stodghill farm. These rocks were placed on the front of the Rockwall County Courthouse. A statue of the farm will be placed in the town square in the next year.
In the late 1800s, there were some families that settled on the east bank of the Trinity River. However, the swollen Trinity River made it impossible to cross over. Elijah Elgin donated forty acres to establish the town of Rockwall. The first post office was established in a cabin built by John O. Heath in 1849. The first full-time pastor was Rev. James McDugald.
Rockwall is also known for its free live music scene. The city hosts a weekly farmers market featuring over 30 vendors. It also has a popular craft brewery and winery. The formation looks like long bricks. However, the formation is also known to have been formed by sedimentary material that hardened over millions of years.
