Rockwall was once a small town with a population of just 2,000. In 1970, the population had increased to 3,000. The development of Lake Ray Hubbard gave Rockwall a new focus and increased the community’s economy. In 2000, the population reached 17,976.

The name “Rockwall” came from the outcropping of rock on April 17, 1851. The first post office was established in the Heath cabin in 1849. Elijah Elgin donated forty acres of land to create the town of Rockwall.

A two-story high school was built on Clark Street in 1925. The eighth, ninth, tenth, and eleventh grade classes moved to the new Rockwall High School building. The Fannin Street building continued to house grades 1-7. However, the county schools served the remaining grades.

The Rockwall County Historical Foundation Museum houses a set of rocks from the Stodghill farm. In the next year, a statue of the farm will be placed in the town square.
