Rockwall
The history of Rockwall begins in 1854, when Elijah Elgin donated forty acres to establish a town. A few years later, a railroad arrived in Rockwall. It was a shipping point for cotton, wheat, and corn. In 1890, the farmers from Blackland and Heath, Texas, began to settle in Rockwall.
In 1893, the Wells College opened in Rockwall. The college was noted for its scholastic excellence. It operated alongside Rockwall Public Schools for many years. The area of Rockwall is a sandstone rock formation. It resembles a wall that stretches 80 feet into the ground. Although it is still not known what was causing the formations to form, it is speculated that prior civilizations may have manipulated the formations to suit their own needs.
In 1936, a portion of the rock wall was excavated for viewing. The city of Rockwall proposed to preserve the wall as a part of a park. It was part of a $60 million bond package, but the proposal was vetoed.
Today, Rockwall is home to a variety of businesses, including aerospace, banking, packaging, and aerospace. The city has several parks, and is close to Interstate 30. It also has several sports complexes, such as the Landing Point complex. These include a zipline, dance facilities, and the Texas International Fencing Center.
The area also has a number of shopping opportunities, including the Rockwall Farmers Market. This market has over 30 vendors and is held on Saturdays from May through September.
