S42 Reunion Tower
The Reunion Tower was constructed as part of a major construction project in 1978. John Scovell, the CEO of Woodbine Development Corporation, spearheaded the project. Scovell was captivated by the 19th-century French settlement La Reunion. Scovell wanted to create a dramatic destination bar when guests stepped off the elevators. He thought of the name, Esplanade, but changed it to Reunion. The tower is now 561 feet high.
At night, the Reunion Tower is illuminated with a unique light display. The tower features 12 green, red and blue LEDs. The tower also features a geodesic sphere with 259 LED light nodes. These fixtures are manufactured by Color Kinetics, a division of Philips Solid State Lighting. The fixtures use only 130 watts of electricity, which is comparable to two average nightlights. The tower also features a live TowerCam that offers a sample of the sights. The tower also features a high-definition zoom camera that allows visitors to take photos from different angles of the city. Next article.
