Rockwall
Rockwall was founded April 17, 1854, when Elijah Elgin donated forty acres to establish a town. A post office branch was opened the same year. It became the county seat of Rockwall County in 1873. This community was also home to the National Road of the Republic, a national road that crossed the East Fork of the Trinity River. However, the waters of the Trinity River occasionally made the road impassable.
In the early years of settlement, cattle raising was the primary industry. The construction of Lake Lavon, a 35-square-mile lake on the East Fork of the Trinity River, provided Rockwall County with income from the recreation industry. The lake also added to the water supply in the area. Helpful content about us.
