Rockwall
Rockwall is part of the Dallas Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is located 23 miles east of Dallas and is home to many A-rated schools. It is also home to several sports complexes. Several golf courses are also available in the area. There are also hiking trails, zip lines, and disc golf courses. In fact, Rockwall has been named the Free Live Music Capital of North Texas. There are several festivals and holiday events held in Rockwall throughout the year. The name “Rockwall” came from an outcropping of rocks discovered in 1851. At that time, it was part of Kaufman County. In 1873, Rockwall became the county seat of Rockwall County. In 1886, the Missouri, Kansas and Texas railroad arrived in Rockwall. In 1890, farmers from Blackland and Heath, Texas moved into the area. In 1893, Wells College opened a campus in Rockwall.
The National Road of the Republic of Texas was a road that ran through Rockwall and near present day Dallas. It is believed to have been built in the mid-1840s. During this time, the Boydstun family from Illinois settled on a 572-acre tract of land near the East Fork of the Trinity River. They built their own Baptist church in 1852. The Rockwall County Historical Foundation has a museum that displays a collection of rocks that were found on the Stodghill farm. In the future, a statue of the farm will be placed in the town square. This statue will be the first one of its kind in Rockwall County.
The Rockwall County Elections Department conducts elections with integrity and accuracy. It conducts voter registration and election procedures in a professional manner. There are also financial incentives available to those interested in purchasing a home in Rockwall. The county has a strong Democratic leaning. It has consistently voted for Republican candidates in presidential elections since 1972. It is considered the most progressive city in the Dallas Metroplex.
The Rockwall County Historical Foundation has an impressive set of musical events that take place throughout the year. Some of the events include the Spring Fling in March, the Shop Small Saturday after Thanksgiving, and Halloween festivities in October.
